You can reduce electric and gas bills, in your Miami home or business, by as much as 70% with accurately installed insulation.

Insulation will maintain cooler temperatures in your home or office during the summer and warmth in the winter.

Benefits of Attic Insulation

Insulating (or replacing existing insulation in) your attic helps:

  • Reduce noises on different levels inside (especially useful if your attic is used as a living space)
  • Reduce your utility bills and maximize the energy efficiency of your home and business
  • Make your home a more comfortable space with more consistent temperature
  • Contribute to a healthier air quality environment inside your home or office
  • Improve the efficiency of your heater and air conditioner, since they likely won’t have to work so hard to regulate your home’s temperature

In addition to being properly insulated, an attic should also be sealed and ventilated. Contact us or call us today and we at All Dade Air Conditioning & Heating will be able to give you more specifics on attic insulation, so you can be sure your Miami home or business doesn’t lose any more energy.

Types of Attic Insulation

There are three varieties of attic insulation—spray foam, loose fill, and batt.

Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation combines liquids that turn into a foam on contact. Closed- or open-cell applications can be used in attics. Closed-cell foam gives the most insulation. It also offers a broad barrier against air, vapor and water. Open-cell foam widens when applied, filling cracks and other hard-to-reach spaces. It’s best for obstructing air but isn’t 100 percent waterproof.

Both types of spray foam insulation may even help dampen noise.

Loose Fill and Batt Insulation for Attics

Loose fill insulation is blown in with special machinery, while batt insulation is rolls that can be cut to fit. Insulating material can include fiberglass, cellulose, mineral wool and cotton. Insulation is rated for its resistance to heat flow. This is also called the R-value. Different levels are recommended based on where you live.

At All Dade Air Conditioning & Heating, we can help you determine what variety of attic insulation is best for the climate in Miami and the surrounding areas, and your home’s and businesses’ needs.

Attic Insulation Frequently Asked Questions

Some common signs to consider are:

  • Your insulation is too low: The US Department of Energy recommends that all homes have insulation that reaches above the level of the attic floor. If your current insulation is level with the floor joists in your attic or has dropped below them, then more insulation must be added.
  • Increasing energy costs: If your energy costs seem to keep going up, then the culprit may very well be a drafty attic. One of the first steps homeowners and businessowners need to take to lower their monthly utility bills is to ensure that their attic is adequately insulated.
  • Your heating system never stops: If your heating system seems to run non-stop all winter long, then you need more insulation in your attic to keep hot air from leaking out through the roof.

Loose fill is ideal for attics in which the joists are irregularly spaced as well as those with many obstructions that you’ll need to work around. If there is limited room to work in your attic, loose fill might be the best insulation choice. However, you’ll need to be comfortable working with the equipment if you want the job done right.

While batting can be more difficult to use if there are many barriers, it can be cut to shape and doesn’t require you to use special machinery. Call us at 305-278-8833 or contact us to schedule an appointment.

You may want to remove insulation that is damaged or has mold. However, you do not need to remove insulation that’s in good condition.
